The trackers among you will notice that the distinct boot marks going out onto the mud are not the same ones coming back ! Yes, I lost both wellingtons and socks in an effort to pull this post out of the Lincolnshire mud. It was obstructing my view from the hide. I had to crawl back on my hands and knees, it was January 2010, the ground was freezing cold and the long barefoot walk back to the car was....memorable.
This is the very first time I have lost my boots in all these years. Next day I went back with a lassoo, pole gone, job done.
The results of this enterprise were a series of amazing shots of battling Redshanks which will be seen in a future issue of "BIRDWATCH".
It was nice to see one of my photographs gracing the paper cover of this prestigious BBC book, LIFE IN THE UNDERGROWTH.

I am delighted I got to meet Eric Hosking, surely one of our most well known pioneer bird photographers.
Way back in 1980 I was one of the winners in a wildlife photo competition sponsored by the WILDFOWL TRUST. My winning picture was of a pair of whooper swans in flight and I was presented with a cheque by Sir Peter Scott seen here on the left.
