VOLUME ONE
Introduction
Time to get serious
Spain 1972
Spain 1973
Cameras & Handbooks

Spain.(This was my experience abroad in 1972)...It was not fenced off, anyone could wander in and around the place. I thought “we are tourist, what is this ‘oik’ on about, I’m damn well going”. The ‘oik’ pulled a revolver on me, (how about that in your life list)! I was furious, there were all those fantastic birds over there and here was someone trying to ruin our day.

VOLUME TWO
Look at a scene of various shades and colours and set your camera’s light meter to record it. Now look through the viewfinder as you pan across the scene and watch that light meter as it moves all over the place from over exposed to under exposed.
As you panned across the scene it was taking reflected light readings off all the various shades/colours so what was the correct light reading?
Exposure & Metering
The Secret Ingredient
Lenses
VOLUME THREE
Yes, once again I chose to use an old frying ‘pan’ rather than pay about £65 for a pan pod or plastic “ground pod” as they are sometimes known.
You may be wondering why not simply splay tripod legs right out, flat to the ground (not all tripods can do this) and push it along. Well, once you are down on the ground (it’s usually mud) it is much easier to push/pull a pan than it is to move the tripod along. It is a hideous trial of strength, willpower and sheer cussedness. The tripod will not slide and so it has to be lifted clear of the ground in order to move it along, lift it that is, complete with ball head, gimbal, camera, lens and any sea-weed that happens to have hitched a ride on this merry go round, good luck with that, I didn’t last two minutes!
Patchworks
Hides
Woodlands
Gadgets & Gizmos
Tripods & supports
VOLUME FOUR
...I have panned flocks of geese going past me using this mode and the focus point acts like a lark being chased by a hawk, it’s all over the place trying to figure out which goose is the nearest. As they fly by I can see which bird I would like the camera to focus on and if I had been using single point I could have hit it.
