March day out for a Bittern

A friend of mine who owns some really nice wetlands told me he had a bittern on one of his ponds, would I be interested in photographing it?

Of course I was!  After describing the various places he had seen it I erected a pop up hide.  After only 30 minutes it 'materialised' in the reeds but 120 feet away. It was worth a few pictures and because these are shy birds I had the "Canon 5D Mk111" shutter on 'silent' a really great tool for shy birds.

It showed for only two minutes before ambling back into the dense reed bed. I waited until sunset but never saw it again. I intend to erect another hide to leave there for all the birds to get used to and I will return for another session.

Meanwhile a couple of Canada Geese looked really nice against the reeds and were a must for pictures.

I shall return!
